Dress Code

OMP Uniform Policy(revised 2021.22)


The OMP school uniform policy is designed to promote the educational environment in the school. Anything that distracts from or disrupts the spirit, education, philosophy, or dignity of Our Mother of Peace School may be deemed unacceptable even though not explicitly set forth in this policy. Such situations will be dealt with by the administration in accordance with the principles implicit in our existing policy.

PreK - 8th Grade:  OMP plaid shorts or navy pants.  Shorts must be NO SHORTER than 4 inches from the floor when kneeling.  Belt loops are not required, but if belt loops are on the pants or shorts a belt is required.

PreK also has the option to wear solid navy shorts.

Girls may not wear pants or shorts on official dress days and Mass days.


PreK- K: Official uniform blue and white gingham dress.  Shorts may be worn under dress.  

Dress must be worn on official dress days and Mass days.

*For the 2020-2021 school year the OMP plaid jumper may also be worn.  Beginning in 2021-2022 the plaid jumper will not be allowed in PreK and K. 

1st - 2nd Grade: Official uniform OMP plaid (blue/gray/white/red #31) jumpers with white school uniform shirt, OR

Official uniform plaid (blue/gray/white/red #31) skirt. 

Jumpers must be worn on official dress days and Mass days. 

3rd - 8th Grade: Official uniform plaid (blue/gray/white/red #31) skirt. Skirt must be worn on official dress days and Mass days. 

ALL GIRLS: Shorts MUST be worn underneath dress, skirt, or jumper. Jumper and skirt must be NO SHORTER than 3 inches from the floor when kneeling. Hems must be adjusted to meet regulation as the student grows. 


Navy, brown or black.  Solid in color and material.  Plain buckles only.

If belt loops are present on short or pants, a belt must be worn.



PreK and K: White (polo, button down, or t-shirt; notched collar or Peter Pan collar) with the OMP logo may be worn under jumper. White polo with the OMP logo OR white knit banded blouse with the OMP logo may be worn with shorts.

1st - 8th. White, oxford-type button down with notched collar, or Peter Pan collar; White heavy knit, 50% poly/cotton with collar; White knit banded blouse; Dri-fit white shirts are also allowed. 

Button down oxford blouse must be worn on official dress days and Mass days.               

ALL GIRLS: OMP logo must be on shirt or blouse. No logos or symbols other than the approved school logo.  Long or short sleeves.  


Only a solid, white, long or short sleeve undershirt is allowed under the uniform shirt. 



White, navy or black.  Plain, solid color. No logos or symbols.  Socks must be visible.


On cold days, solid navy or white FOOTED tights may be worn under the uniform.  

Tights must be in good condition with no holes or rips.  


Shoes of any type may be worn with the exception of cowboy boots, cleats, backless shoes, open toe shoes, sandals and toe shoes (FiveFingers, Skeletoes, etc.). 

Shoes may be white, navy blue, black, grey or brown with matching shoe strings.  NO other colors are allowed.  NO characters or lights on shoes.  NO high top shoes.  NO sequin or shiny shoes.  NO plaid or NO checkered shoes.

 Saddle oxford shoes, Keds, boat / deck shoes (Sperry Topsiders) in proper appropriate color are allowed. 

 

The OMP navy blue school approved sweatshirt can be worn.

Sweaters (v-neck, pullover, or cardigan, and jackets must be solid navy with the OMP logo or no logo/symbols.  The OMP logo is the only symbol allowed.  

Jackets must be navy blue, solid in color, no logos or symbols, except the OMP logo.

All outdoor (heavy) coats must be solid in color and complement the uniform.  Approved colors are, dark navy blue, brown or black. No logos or symbols



Scarves and hats/caps are not allowed.

          

Make- up of any kind is not allowed.  

Girls may have moderate length nails and wear clear nail polish. 

All nails must be natural.


PreK-5th Grade: One religious medal (tucked inside shirt) is permitted. For safety reasons, necklaces, bracelets, and rings are not allowed.  Traditional scapulars are allowed.

6th - 8th Grade:  Multiple necklaces/bracelets are not allowed. A student may wear one gold or silver necklace with a Catholic medal  Students may also wear a scapular. Students may wear one bracelet with a Catholic medal.  Students may wear one ring with a Catholic symbol.  One pair of earrings, in the ear lobe, which are plain, non-dangling, in gold, silver or colors that complement the uniform.  Nose rings or any other rings or ornamentation in any other pierced body parts are not allowed. 

Watches for time-telling purposes are allowed. No Apple watch, Fitbit, or any kind of smart watch is allowed. 


Girls may wear any tasteful, well groomed hair style.  No gaudy or extreme cuts or designs are allowed for girls.  No hair color modifications allowed.  HIGHLIGHTS ARE NOT ALLOWED.

 





Barrettes / Bows / Headbands may be white, navy, red or uniform plaid, or any combination thereof. No Logo, other than official School logo.  Bows with the current spirit shirt color/design are allowed.

PreK - 8th Grade: Navy twill dress pants Inset pockets and belt loops required. Belts must be worn. OR,Navy twill or dress short.  Belts must be worn if there are beltloops.   Shorts must be loose fitting and be no more than 4” from the floor when kneeling   

Dress pants must be worn on official dress days and Mass days. Shorts will not be allowed on these days

Boys may not wear earrings or any other body piercing.

Boys should have neatly trimmed hair with at least the bottom half of the ears exposed and a length not below the top of the collar or below the top of the eyebrow line.  No gaudy or unusual cuts, or designs are allowed for boys. No hair color modifications allowed.  HIGHLIGHTS ARE NOT ALLOWED. No perms or fade haircuts are allowed.

Boys will be clean-shaven. No mustaches, beards, or sideburns below the bottoms of the eaRS.

The school administration will be the final interpreter of the dress code. 

Spirit Shirt • The OMP spirit shirt adopted for the present or last school year may be worn with uniform bottom on Fridays, unless other circumstances arise.       

Spirit/Jeans Day • Students may wear any OMP spirit shirt, club shirt, or team shirt for free, and/or any closed toe shoe.  Students have the option of paying $1.00 (usually for club, fundraiser or service project) to wear jeans, jean skirt, or jean capris.  Jean skirts must be regulation length and shorts must be worn under. Jeans may not have rips or holes. Jeggings are not allowed.

P. E. UniformPE Uniform Shorts are mandatory for grades 6-8.  The uniforms (short & shirt) are to be purchased through OMP. 

School Logo.  Our Mother of Peace Elementary has adopted a special, individualized crest/logo to be worn on shirts, sweaters, etc. All girls blouses and boys shirts are required to include this crest/logo as of September 1998.  Sweaters and jackets will not be required to carry the logo, however, if a logo is desired on the sweater or jacket, the school crest will be the only design accepted. 

General Appearance: Blouses and shirts will be tucked in at all times from arrival at school until the end of the school day, with the exception of girls’ banded uniform shirts.  Belts must be visible at all times.  Shorts and pants must be worn at the student’s waistline.  Shoes must be tightly laced and properly tied. If the uniform is worn to a school sponsored activity at any time, these rules apply.
